Ton v Wattstown

Tonyrefail RFC extends a warm welcome to the players and supporters of Wattstown RFC for today's game at Tylcha Fawr. When the teams met back in October Wattstown took the honours with a 20 - 14 win and they have had a bit of an up and down season since then. Although they are only one place above Ton in the league they have twelve points more than us and whichever side wins today, neither of them will move up the table. The difference is that if Ton can win the threat of relegation almost certainly disappears and if Old Penarthians can beat Hirwaun we are definitely safe even if we lose to Hirwaun next week.  So it's lots of "ifs and buts" with everything to play for as far as we are concerned. Hopefully, we will be able to field a strong side because, as we know from past experience, our visitors are never easy to play against. So good luck to both sides and a Ton win would be bloody marvelous.

Last Tuesday evening those who braved the horrible weather were treated to a terrific game of rugby as Ton Youth took on Brecon Youth in a semi-final of the Blues Cup. The game was played at a terrific pace and intensity from beginning to end and the skills of  both teams was of a high level. Unfortunately Ton lost 14-17 but all who took part should be commended. Whilst trying to remain impartial I felt that the referee made four major errors which turned the game in favour of Brecon but that is only my personal opinion. The Ton boys showed great character against a well drilled Brecon team and we wish Brecon the best of luck in the final.
