Ton v Old Penarthians

It's that time of year again, - when you tell the wife that if she wants to go shopping on Saturday afternoon she will have to catch the bus or, if you are a wimp, like me, you ask her if it's ok to go on Friday instead!!!!
The start of a new season, when every team starts with a clean sheet and hopes of doing better than last season. Ton start in earnest today after two warm up games. The first against Glamorgan County, to celebrate 125 years of rugby in Ton and the second one against Pentyrch. Although both games were lost the results will have little impact on the season proper but what will have an impact is the number of players that turned up for both of those games. After struggling with a small player base for a number of years it would appear that those days are behind us with some old faces returning and youth players coming through, along with a few new faces. Hopefully the club will be able to maintain the interest of them all and the possibility of a second team has already been spoken off once things have settled down.
Today the club extends a warm welcome to the players and supporters of Old Penarthians RFC for the opening game and the first league game on the new field at Tylcha Fawr. Last season they enjoyed two league wins over us after a difficult start to their season but when it was all over they finished one place below us in the league and clear of relegation.
With our summer weather now well behind us let's hope we have a good day for some open rugby that we can enjoy. good luck to both sides.
