A good win in the rain

Bottom of the league side Llandaff North were the visitors for this weeks game so it was important for Ton to get a win to consolidate their own league position. As it turned out the try bonus point was in the bag after half an hour but it was the visitors who opened the scoring with a try on four minutes and they looked lively in the opening exchanges. Unfortunately for them Ton found their rhythm after ten minutes and some nice handling and support play in the wet and windy conditions got them over the line from deep, to open their account. From then on they had the upper hand for most of the half and the tries came at regular intervals, with the visitors bringing the score back to 15 - 10 with a try of their own. They were unable to prevent further tries from Ton who finished the half strongly to lead 25 -10 at half time.
In the second half the visitors had the advantage of the slope and they cut the deficit with a converted try before Ton again took charge to score a further four tries as the passes went to hand in the slippery conditions. To their credit the visitors did not give up and in the final stages of the game they hit back with another converted try to make the final score 49-24.
Ton now find themselves in equal fifth position in the league with a visit to Wattstown next week.
Another big plus for the club is the way the new field is holding up in the rain. It may be early days yet but in past seasons the game would probably not have gone ahead on the old field. Being able to play on a Saturday means a better revnue stream for the club than having to play mid week games at the end of the season.
