Senior Squad Update

Hi all. We hope you are all safe and well. We just wanted to keep our supporters, members and sponsors up to date with regards to the senior squad.

Pre season training resumed 3 weeks ago on Tuesdays and Thursdays under coaches Lewis, Dan and Justin, supported by Jon Hicks as team manager. Vern and Steve have committed themselves once again as medics. There have been good numbers training, with a few new players showing a keen interest in joining the setup. All existing players have committed themselves to next season, with the added bonus of a number of players who have come up from the youth. Spirit is very high and the boys are chomping at the bit to get back to action. They are all looking fit, having kept busy training on their own over the past 12 months. Training sessions have been short and sharp, with the emphasis on fun but serious. No doubt it will be ramped up in coming weeks by the coaches.

The coaches have a good training schedule in place for the coming weeks, including track sessions, sea sessions, beach sessions and a trip to Merthyr Mawr dunes, a variety of challenging themes to keep the mind fresh so that the players will be in peak conditions by the time competitive matches resume. 

Off the field, the squad are soon having a socially distanced pizza and pint evening after training in the club, hoping to have a Saturday internal touch rugby tournament followed by a barbie as a team bonding session when conditions permit. A new playing kit is on order, the changing rooms painted, field equipment serviced and the gym in the basement of the club fully refurbished to a high standard for the modern day player and soon to be able for use . A few of the players are also helping coach the mini’s where player numbers from under 8 to under 16 now exceed 170 boys and girls . 

On Parklands, we have installed a scoreboard, a tannoy system, and are hoping to soon instal toilet facilities to improve the spectator experience. Overall, things are going in the right direction with lots of organising and planning going on. We can’t wait to see you all at Parklands.
